EN12 RAINBO-ORANGE successful CIHR Project Grant funding

Refining Adjuvant treatment IN endometrial cancer Based On molecular features (RAINBO) No Specific Molecular Profile (NSMP)-ORANGE trial 

The EN12 RAINBO-ORANGE clinical trial was awarded $1,575,898 through the CIHR Project Grant to investigate if surgery followed by radiotherapy and a type of oral endocrine therapy called progestins will lead to similar cancer control as surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy in patients with NSMP, estrogen receptor-positive endometrial cancer (EC). Researchers will examine whether radiotherapy and oral progestin tablet therapy are associated with fewer side effects and better quality of life than radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Tumour tissue will be collected on all trial participants, and analysis will help us better understand which tumours are more likely to recur and which treatment to use.

Academic trials are critical for answering important questions that industry may have little incentive to study—especially when the treatment is an older, inexpensive therapy like endocrine therapy," says Canadian study chair Josée-Lyne Ethier, Medical Oncologist at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre. "CCTG and CIHR support make it possible to generate high-quality evidence for questions that might otherwise go unanswered."

The trial is an international, phase III randomized study led by University College, London and will be led in Canada by the Canadian Cancer Trials Group as part of the RAINBO Program. A total of 100 patients from 14 Canadian centres will be enrolled.
