Hope helps cancer patients cope during their journey, however long it may be.”Catherine Caule is a 25-year member of The Lymphoma Support Group of Ottawa and is well informed on quality of life challenges of lymphoma patients. She was a management consultant in financial and risk management when diagnosed with advanced Hodgkin Lymphoma. At relapse, she received High Dose Chemo and an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant and radiation. She reinvented herself as a health advocate, volunteering broadly to improve the health of individuals and the community. Her articles and presentations encourage individuals to proactively manage their health, healthcare and quality of life. Catherine was a Peer Leader in the community for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program and a Trainer for Canadian Cancer Society programs. She was the patient voice on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Ottawa Integrated Cancer Centre and on the program committee of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. For nine years, she was a Patient and Family Advisor (PFA), then Vice-Chair, of the Champlain Regional Cancer Program Patient and Family Advisory Council. Concurrently, she was a PFA at Cancer Care Ontario on the Systemic Treatment Provincial Leadership Team and the Diagnostic Imaging Advisory Committee. She brings an inclusive perspective as a former Board Chair of Centretown Community Health Centre whose programs improve the health and well-being of individuals facing barriers to access. Council appointed her to Ottawa’s Health and Social Services Advisory Committee. Catherine has made representations promoting healthy, inclusive and liveable communities to government organizations. She received a provincial “Leading Women Building Communities” award. Catherine was appointed to the Cancer Care Ontario Board of Directors and served on the Strategic Planning and Risk Management, and the Audit and Finance Committees. While a Board member, the Ministry of Health invited her to join a governance committee focused on better care for people with musculoskeletal conditions.“Clinical trials give patients access to treatments and supports that could help them and others.
