Anna Johnson, PhD

Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity, Indigenization, and Accessibility (EDIIA) Lead

Anna Johnson, PhD, joined the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) in 2022 as the Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity, Indigenization, and Accessibility (EDIIA) Lead. In this role, she leads CCTG’s health equity priorities and supports the integration of health equity and accessibility across its clinical trials, research activities, and network operations.

Her work focuses on health equity and the social determinants of health, with particular emphasis on improving equitable access to clinical trials, advancing reconciliation, and addressing the structural and patient-level barriers that limit participation among underrepresented populations. She is committed to building reciprocal relationships with underrepresented communities to better understand community research priorities, strengthen trust, and improve equitable access to cancer research.

Anna led three pan-Canadian Working Groups that developed recommendations which now guide CCTG's health equity priorities and contributed to the establishment of the Health Equity Standing Committee, which she chairs. She is also a co-Senior Investigator on a CCTG study collecting social determinants of health data from participants on CCTG trials to understand the representativeness of CCTG trial participants.

Prior to joining CCTG, Anna worked in Indigenous justice and earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Guelph.
