Honouring Patient Representative Sylvie Desmarais

Honouring Patient Representative Sylvie Desmarais

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of CCTG Patient Representative Sylvie Desmarais, after her four year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Her main mission was as a patient partner, supporting the advancement of research and services for women with breast cancer.

Since 2021 Sylvie volunteered her time as a CCTG Patient Representative supporting the Breast Disease Site Committee where she was considered a respected and thoughtful voice by those who worked with her. Sylvie was a retiree after more than 35 years in the Quebec Health and Social Services responsible for promoting the quality of services and the efficient use of resources. In November 2019, Sylvie was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy treatments that stabilized the progression of the cancer and allowed her to maintain a good quality of life.

Our thoughts and support are with her family, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Complexe funéraire Yves Légaré, 2750, boul. Marie-Victorin in Longueuil, Quebec.

In lieu of flowers, Sylvie would like donations, in her memory, to be made to one of the following organizations: Center de recherche du CHUM, Fondation du cancer du sein du Québec, Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer or the Canadian Cancer Society. Donation forms will be available on site or on the Complexe funéraire website, where you can also write your testimony.
