Tracking cancer patient outcomes who develop COVID-19

Pooled Canadian data for future research activities

CCTG has been made aware of an opportunity that may be of interest to our member centres during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Jonathan Loree and colleagues at BC Cancer have developed a protocol to help Canadian centres track outcomes among patients with cancer who develop COVID-19. Additionally, Dr. Loree's group have developed a REDCap database that can be quickly employed at centres and a template REB approval to expedite submissions. Dr. Loree is happy to share these resources with CCTG member centres. Centres will need to have REDCap instance installed locally and supported by their individual institutions in order to download the REDCap COVID-19 tracking template.  Once downloaded, the database can be used for quality improvement and research activities and a waiver of consent for registration is expected to be available during REB submission due to the public health emergency.

For those interested in obtaining these resources, please email Dr. Loree directly.

It is hoped that this initiative will help provide opportunities for national research collaborations that utilize pooled data from across Canada, but understand that data sharing agreements can take time. This resource is being made available to try and help ensure the data is available once data sharing can be arranged. Investigators with any ideas for the pan-Canadian data are encouraged to share them with the CCTG.  The CCTG will reach out in the future with amendments for those interested in contributing to national research projects.
