Dr. Rebecca Wong Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Wednesday, May 07, 2025 We are honoured to announce that the 2025 Joseph Pater Founder’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Trials Research has been presented to Dr. Rebecca Wong Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for her many years of trial and committee leadership with the group.She was Chair of CCTG’s Symptom Control (now Supportive Care) Committee from 2001-2018, and Esophageal disease-oriented group from 2009-2018. She is currently a member of CCTG’s Clinical Trials Committee. She is privileged to represent CCTG in several practice-changing international trials in both symptom control and GI malignancies. "As the recipient of the 2025 Joseph Pater Founder’s Award, I am deeply honored. As an early career investigator, I was thrilled yet unaware of how these opportunities would go on to influence my career. With Dr. Joe Pater as my partner, guide and mentor, and subsequently many senior investigators at CCTG, I literally learned from the best and was privileged to mentor others in return," says Dr Wong.Dr. Rebecca Wong is a radiation oncologist, Radiation Medicine Program, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto. She completed her MB ChB at Sheffield University (UK), residency at Queen’s University, and MSc (Clinical Epidemiology) at McMaster University. Her clinical interests are in the areas of gastroesophageal cancers, radiotherapy for patients with metastatic cancer, and theranostics and is the Director for Radiotheranostics at Princess Margaret.She founded the Supportive Care Guidelines Group, served as Co-Chair for the Gastrointestinal Guidelines Group, and currently serves on the report approval panel for Program in Evidence Based Care for Ontario. She is past Vice Chair, Education of the University of Toronto’s Department of Radiation Oncology, and currently serves as the Director of Education of the Radiation Medicine Program at Princess Margaret. She is active in the design of innovative educational offerings for state-of-the-art radiotherapy, and low- and middle-income countries to support radiotherapy capacity building through collaborative partnerships, training and education. She is the author of over 230 publications.
