CCTG Thoracic Disease Site Committee Radiation Oncology Co-Chair position

Call for Applications

 

Dr. Yee Ung will be stepping down as the CCTG radiation oncology co-chair of the thoracic disease site committee as of April 2019, and we are calling for applicants to this position.

The applicant should be a thoracic oncology staff radiation oncologist practicing in a CCTG member Institution in Canada, with international or national leadership experience in clinical trials.

The successful co-chair will work with the Thoracic Disease Site Chair and CCTG Senior Investigator, and supported by the CCTG senior biostatistician, study coordinator and clinical trials assistant, to provide scientific leadership to CCTG by overseeing the development and execution of an excellent program of studies within their sites that aligns with the strategic direction set by each committee.

Roles and responsibilities include:

1. Evaluate and prioritize new proposals and determine with the chair and in consultation with the senior investigator, senior biostatistician and thoracic disease site executive, which should be brought to the broader disease site committee membership for comments on feasibility and scientific merit and to Clinical Trials Committee

2. Generate new ideas, maintain a comprehensive knowledge of developments within the disease site, and recognize and stimulate development of new study proposals

3. Ensure the success of the Thoracic Disease Site Committee program

4. Support presentation or present new trial concepts to the Clinical Trials Committee

5. Assess the competitive environment in Canada with a view toward achieving a balance of CCTG and non-CCTG studies

6. Ensure effective liaisons with Thoracic Disease Site Committee members and relevant CCTG committees (e.g. Lay Representatives)

7. Assist and mentor Study Chairs in protocol development and execution

8. Work with the committee chair to set meeting schedule and prepare and chair meetings

9. Represent the Group to external agencies, as appropriate

10. Maintain active liaisons with site committee chairs of other cooperative groups, particularly those of the US National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN)

11. Ensure that CCTG authorship policies for abstracts and manuscripts are followed, support the resolution of any conflicts over authorship, and ensure that completed trials are published expeditiously

12. Work with the chair to develop relevant sections for program grant submissions (e.g. Canadian Cancer Society and NCTN), and present the activities, accomplishments, and future plans of the Thoracic Disease Site Committee to the Grant Review Team; and, with the Chair, chairs Thoracic Disease Site Committee Executive meetings and Thoracic Disease Site Committee meetings at the Annual Spring Meeting.
