Canadian Cancer Trials Group Name and Logo -- REMINDER

We would like to remind our members to ensure that any references to the "National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group" included on trial documents and such materials as slide sets, news articles / promotional materials, websites etc. be replaced with "Canadian Cancer Trials Group" or "Canadian Cancer Trials Group" (i.e., please drop the "National Cancer Institute of Canada").

As many of you will remember, on 12 June 12 2008, the National Cancer Institute of Canada (NCIC) Board of Directors voted unanimously in favour of integrating the NCIC with the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS). Within the CCS, there was a strong sense that its research activity should have a name that would resonate with both donors and the research community. After a consultation process that included CCS and NCIC board members, other scientists and CCS representatives, the name selected was The Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute (CCSRI).

This, obviously, had implications for our name -- the Canadian Cancer Trials Group. On one hand, part of this name -- the NCIC -- will no longer exist. On the other hand, our Group has a history, international reputation and branding that is associated with "Canadian Cancer Trials Group".

After much discussion, it was determined that we will continue to be known only as the "Canadian Cancer Trials Group" or "Canadian Cancer Trials Group". While we will continue to use "NCIC", we will be eliminating the full text "National Cancer Institute of Canada", thus ensuring we are known as the "Canadian Cancer Trials Group" or "Canadian Cancer Trials Group". This change took effect February 1, 2009.

Also, as of February 1, 2009, we abandoned our logo. An alternative logo that accounts for our relation with CCS will be developed in concert with them. Until then, we will use only a text logo that in English says "Canadian Cancer Trials Group" and in French is "NCIC GEC":

We will continue to keep you abreast of any further developments and about our progress as we move along. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact Belinda Vandersluis, Operations Director, at bvandersluis@ctg.queensu.ca or (613) 533-6430.

We appreciate your cooperation and your efforts to assist us with this transition.
