Canadian Cancer Trials Group Investigator Awarded ASTRO Gold Medal

We are extremely pleased and proud to announce that Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz, Canadian Cancer Trials Group investigator, has been awarded the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Gold Medal -- the Society's highest honour!!

ASTRO's Gold Medal, first awarded in 1977, is bestowed annually on esteemed ASTRO members who have made exceptional contributions to the field of radiation oncology, including work in research, clinical care, teaching and service. Including the three 2014 awardees named above, only 75 of ASTRO's more than 10,000 members have received the Gold Medal.

Dr. Gospodarowicz has been a member of the Canadian Cancer Trials Group since 1991. During this time, she has made outstanding contributions to the Group, including as past Chair of the Canadian Cancer Trials Group's Genitourinary Disease Site Committee, chair and member of several trial committees, including BL.5, HD.6 and PR.7, and has been lead or co-author on more than 25 Canadian Cancer Trials Group publications. She is currently a member of the Canadian Cancer Trials Group's Clinical Trials Committee.

Dr. Gospodarowicz is a radiation oncologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto and a 33-year ASTRO member who has had a major impact on several areas of radiation oncology, including the treatment of malignant lymphomas and genitourinary cancers, global health and the use of radiation treatment worldwide, and the mentoring of trainees.

The American Society for Radiation Oncology presented the Gold Medal award to Dr. Gospodarowicz, and Drs Leonard L. Gunderson and Nancy J. Tarbell on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 during the Awards Ceremony at ASTRO's 56th Annual Meeting at Moscone Center in San Francisco.
