DIRECTOR OF THE NCIC CLINICAL TRIALS GROUP and
EDITH AND CARLA EISENHAUER CHAIR IN CLINICAL CANCER RESEARCH
The Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CTG) is an internationally renowned cooperative oncology group that conducts clinical trials in cancer therapy, supportive care and prevention. The Canadian Cancer Trials Group is the only cancer clinical trials cooperative group based in Canada that has a national membership and is committed to assessing all modalities of therapy across the spectrum of different cancer types. The Canadian Cancer Trials Group has conducted more than 320 trials within its Phase III Program and more than 170 Phase I/II trials within its Investigational New Drug Program. The Canadian Cancer Trials Group has over 80 Canadian member institutions, including all major Canadian cancer centres and many community hospitals and over 600 Canadian and international investigator members. The Canadian Cancer Trials Group central office is housed in the Queen's University Cancer Research Institute where it constitutes the Cancer Clinical Trials Division. The position of Director of the Canadian Cancer Trials Group is jointly supported by the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute (CCSRI) and the Queen's University Edith and Carla Eisenhauer Chair in Clinical Cancer Research. The successful candidate will hold the Eisenhauer Chair and will have an academic appointment with commensurate rank in an appropriate department within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
We are searching for a clinical cancer leader of international stature who has extensive knowledge of clinical trials design and research methods as well as a visionary approach to clinical trials and program development. Qualified candidates will hold an MD and/or PhD (or equivalent) and will lead or have recently led an established research program in cancer. The position also requires excellent communication abilities, personnel management and relationship building skills, demonstrated success in financial management, an understanding of business processes as well as experience in graduate and postgraduate clinical trial training. An understanding of the mechanisms for funding clinical trials at national and international levels and experience with the pharmaceutical industry would be assets. A qualified physician will also have the opportunity for clinical practice in an appropriate specialty if eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario.
