Privacy and Confidentiality

It is Canadian Cancer Trials Group (Canadian Cancer Trials Group) policy to ensure compliance with applicable privacy legislation related to clinical trial conduct in Canada. This includes national and provincial Acts such as the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), as applicable.

As a recipient of US Federal funds to conduct research, Canadian Cancer Trials Group ensures compliance with the HHS Protection of Human Subjects Regulations Title 45 CFR Part 46 (or the Common Rule), and the FDA Protection of Human Subjects Regulations Title 21 CFR Part 50, 56. For trials where Canadian Cancer Trials Group participates in US Cooperative Group studies, US Cooperative Group policy/US federal regulations regarding privacy will be followed.

As a result, the Office of Compliance and Oversight (OCO) is pleased to announce that the Canadian Cancer Trials Group Privacy and Confidentiality policy is now posted on its website via the "Privacy" link on the "Ethics" page. A printer-friendly reference document is also available. A memo has also been posted in the "News and Updates" section of the OCO website.
