What are Tissue MicroArrays?
In the tissue microarray technology, small tissue cylinders (diameter 0.6mm) are removed
from hundreds formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded different tumors (the donor blocks) and
placed into a single empty "recipient" block, using a custom-built precision instrument
(Kononen J, Bubendorf L, Kallioniemi A, et al. "Tissue microarrays for high-throughput
molecular profiling of tumor specimens." Nat Med. 1998;4:844-847).
